Whale Rider.  (2002) New Zealand/Germany. Director Niki Caro 101 mins.             This enchanting film has a young Maori girl who wants to prove herself to her Grandfather, who insists that a male should replace him as the leader of the community. Beautifully shot against the backdrop of serene coastal locations, it features a tremendously expressive central performance by Keisha Castle-Hughes, who achieved an Oscar nomination as leading actress.                        Tickets £8 including after the film buffet.  Available from East Garston Village Shop  7.30am – 7pm & Newbury Building Society, Hungerford Branch. Members free admission for film with £3 for pre-booked buffet. New members are welcome to join for Season Five on the evening in which case they will have free addmission to see Whale Rider.
