It’s nearly time for our December film on Tuesday 4th December in East Garston Village Hall. The Ladykillers (the original, of course - from 1955) was the last of the Ealing comedies and stars Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers and Katie Johnson. This classic affectionately celebrates the quaint tradition of English innocence.

Film starts at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm. Bar open and orders taken on the door for Nippy Chippy suppers that will be delivered at the interval. Please feel free to bring your own cushions and to stay afterwards for a brief discussion of the film.

We always welcome guests but it’s not too late to join the Valley Film Society. Membership for the rest of the season will now cost £15.

Our next event will be our Film Day on Sunday 13th January. The line-up is as follows:

3pm The Simpsons Movie (USA 2007) 1hr 17 mins
Simpson’s creator Matt Groening has Lisa falling in love & Bart skateboarding naked, while he explores global society’s two biggest moral panics – religion & the environment or as Executive producer Al Jean says “a man should listen to his wife”.

4.30 pm Tea break

5pm Hot Fuzz (UK 2007) 2 hours 1 min
Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright & co-writer Simon Pegg send a top London cop to a sleepy west country village. Is it all as it seems as he looks for action amid the garden fetes & neighbourhood watch meetings? See Nick Frost, Jim Broadbent & Timothy Dalton star in this blisteringly funny UK parody of US action flicks.

7pm Orders taken for Nippy Chippy suppers

7.30 pm This is England (UK 2007) 1hr 40 mins
Winner Best Film –British Independent Film Awards

Shane Meadows directs an electric & powerful biographic tale, set in 1983. 11 year old Shaun (Thomas Turgoose) is inducted to a skinhead gang, in a desolate coastal town, in Margaret Thatcher’s England. “THIS
IS ENGLAND is essential viewing for anyone with even a passing interest in film. Once again Meadows has
set a precedent for British filmmakers and has eclipsed many of his contemporaries. THIS IS ENGLAND may
not make for comfortable viewing but it is cinema at its best.
